Standup Paddle Surfing

stand up paddle surf

Standup Paddle Surfing is a relativley new sport to the UK. Its been gradually growing in popularity over the past couple of years. It is a different style of surfing where you have a large board (anywhere from 9' to 12' - the bigger the better for flotation) and a paddle (normally just a touch taller than yourself).

The idea is that you are standing all the time and you use the paddle to position yourself on a wave and to steer. See http://www.paddlesurfhawaii.com/ for some action pics

Whilst some people are learning to ride waves, there is another group of people who use the same equipment for a totally chilled way to enjoy water. It could be these 2 groups are indeed the same, somedays catch some waves, other flat days just paddle around.
